Then dive into the fundamentals:

3. Link Building
4. Technical SEO (don’t start here!)

Figure those out in an easy niche like local SEO first, then expand into more competitive spaces like eCommerce, affiliate/review sites, etc.

And what if you already own a business/website?

It’s probably not worth the time to learn this as a separate skill, it’s a LOT of work. Instead, either hire an expert or just learn the basics of keyword research and onpage SEO – that’ll get you most of the way there if it’s a simple niche.
